Elmarit 28mm ver. IV

Hey,

Somebody offered me a Elmarit 28mm type 4 I'm considering, without a hood though. Do you guys know where I could get one? Do I even need one? I'm afraid to never find one, doesn't seem to be easy.

Did you have a look at Meister? I think they sell new hoods, but they cost mostly more than 100 Euros.

I have the lens. It takes hood# 12451, the same as the 28mm f/2 Summicron, so they're still available new from Leica and any Leica dealer could order one. Price, I don't know about. If you could find a used one that would save you some money. KEH.com in the US has a couple, but I'm not sure how much of a bargain once you add on international shipping.

The original hood is huge and blocking too much of viewfinder, better to think twice before buying one. Some 3rd party (heavystar) thread mount hood might be more suitable (and much cheaper).

Florian, Meister doesn't seem to have any, I asked in the shop and there were none in store.

Ben Z, thanks! I found one online for 110 Euros. That's insane. Does the Summilux ASPH hood work as well?

Palec, I'd try the Heavystar, but first I want to be sure there's one available in case nothing works.

Did you ask the Hamburg dependance, too?
