What's the viewfinder like on the R-D1? Do folks w/ eyeglasses have problems seeing framelines? Thanks.

I wear glasses and I find that I can see the 35mm & 50mm frames well enough, but the 35 frame is not so easy to use with both eyes open, taking full advantage of the R-D1's 1:1 viewfinder. The 50mm frame works fine for me using this method.
I can use the 28mm frame with my glasses on but have to scan it to see it all rather than taking it all in in one go, so its not ideal. The Nikon FM2 diaopter adjusters fit the R-D1 if your happy to push your glasses up out of the way.

Guess it depends on your glasses. I can see both the 35mm and 50mm frames fine through mine. The 28mm frame is really hard for me to see with glasses, even by scanning; no problems if I take off the glasses and use a diopter corrector, though.

Incidentally, if you're shopping for Nikon diopter correctors, be sure you get the newer type with the small rim. Nikon also made an older model that has the correct thread size, but its large knurled rim interferes with a ridge on the R-D 1 body just below the finder eyepiece.

Could any R-D1 owner tell me if I could use Nikon's magnifier eyepiece (DG-2) on the R-D1?
I have seen some messages on this, but could never confirm if the rubber rim for the R-D1 eyepiece could be removed.

I can tell you with certanty (Because I have both) than you can use the
DG-2 magnifier and also the DR-5 Angle Finder which also has variable
maginfication (1x and 2x).

I wear glasses and can see the 35 & 50mm framelines easily. I have to scan the viewfinder with my eye to see the 28mm framelines. When I'm using a 28mm I don't worry about the frame, knowing that whatever I can see through the finder will be recorded by the lens/camera. This is also how I use 35mm lenses with my Leica M2 so I'm comfortable with it.
