The XA is not bad at all. My example gives two stops over exposure so I adjust the ASA setting to two stops under. With 100 ASA film I set the film speed to ASA 400. The small RF patch is still "OK". The main advantage is the small size and the shell like covering on the lens. The Zuiko 35mm 2.8 is quite sharp.
The film [Arista 50] was developed and scanned by Dwayne's Photo.

Nice pictures.
But it is also strange (or is that a coincidence) that my XA is also 2 stops over, and I have been doing what you are doing with the film speed setting. Of course, that means that neither you nor me can use fast films in this neat little camera.

Nice series Raid...
I recently got rid of my XA and am regretting it since...might have to pick up another one.
Mine was always overexposing by one stop, which must be something common...

My sample has correct exposure. Using alkaline batteries (never!) could be an issue, otherwise it needs servicing.

I sold this XA but took it back when we discovered that it was overexposing. Now I am glad I still have it. I took very good care of the XA and its lens is very clean. Its shutter is accurate and the RF is OK. |

Only use silver oxide, Sony SR44 or equivalent. They are expensive at retail, but <$1 online. I usually order 25+ from 24Hour Batteries.

Yes, 3rd from last is very, very sweet.
Photos do not seem particularly sharp to me, also seems to be quite a lot of vignetting.
This is not a criticism, it works for these photos, just trying to figure out if this is characteristic of the XA. Always wanted one from the time they first came out. |

Vignetting might me a problem, but sharpness? My XA produces very sharp images. BTW, comparing the pics of your daughters to those you took with the Rolleiflex, I much prefer the Rollei pics. (not because the lack of grain etc.)

The sharpness of the XA is better than what these samples show on screen. Wide open there is some softness, but by f5.6 everything is fine -- that is typical of many lenses, of course, especially in this type of camera.
Falloff is typical for the XA, not surprising give the reverse telephoto design of the lens. At smaller apertures its not as noticeable, if at all.
