Buying watch in New York City ?

Hi guys,

I'm going to new york city at the end of the month... I don't kow yet which camera/lens I Will take but i'll probably decide it the day before, you know the feeling. I got some very nice food advice here at RFF but there's another thing i need to know about NYC. I'm going with my father who got me into photography, buying me a Canon AE1, then my first leica M6 some years later. He's a lot into vintage watches (40s to 60s Omega, Tissot, Zenith..) and I would love to buy him one while travelling together in New York. Any idea of a store in New York with nice vintage watches for about USD 500 to USD 800 ?

The really exiting way to buy a watch in New York is to buy from these who sells Rolex copies from inside of their coats. At 5th Avenue, mind you. A friend of mine did just that. The Rolex copy, it turned out to electric, worked flawlessly for years.

Spoks I don't think that's a good tip, even if the rolex really worked the guy here can get a fake rolex.

reuno - I suggest you not to buy from the streets there are alot of fakers!
Anyway, try searching google for "clock store in new york" or something like that - even if you won't find anything you will find it in manhattan in one of the avenues, you will just have to ask people there.

In no particular order: Tourneau (disclosure: I used run the vintage division, but no personal connection there in 10 yrs, however; high-priced, but good quality and they will stand behind the product); Aaron Faber Gallery (owner, Ed Faber wrote a book on American wristwatches, very knowledgeable; his stuff, like Tourneau's will be serviced and warranteed); J&P Timepieces (Jeff & Peter). Google them for addresses. You can mention my name and get exactly the same price they charge everyone else. All these folks have been in business many years and are reputable. There are also a whole slew of dealers on 47th St.; be more careful there.

Sure they are fakes. That's the point. They are cheap, regardless. To buy the real thing, a Rolex, is just vulgar.

If you are going to buy an expensive watch at the Aron Faber Gallery you risk being screwed big time.
