Should I keep Summicron rigid or return it?

Hello,

I need RFF members' wisdom on deciding whether I should return a 50mm Summicron rigid, which I bought from ebay. I found out the lens base is not original and I see very fine scratches around the inner lens element which look like resulted from circular lens cleaning action. Seller's description was "beautiful...no scratches etc". I got it for ~$370. Do you think the scratches affect image quality??

Thanks,

I can't speak to whether it will affect image quality but for that price I would return the lens. And then I would look for another rigid in better condition (since that's one of my favorite lenses). Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

You are obviously not happy with it so send it back. There are plenty of these available and at that price you should find a good one. The one I have has some haze and produces beautifull photographs so I'm leaving 'well alone' and not bothering with getting it cleaned.

Based on the description, your expectations were significantly different—so I vote to return it.

What do the pictures look like? The quality of the negatives and prints would inform me. I'd certainly complain and ask for a refund if the image quality seemed to be harmed, but if not, you got a 50 year old Summicron for $350. As for what anon. sellers say...

After I bought and sold four rigids, I finally had one in beautiful shape. If you really bothered, then return it and take your time to find another in better condition.
