I'd cut back on the burns zoom for your next piece, almost every frame is a bit much. If you like Soundslides, you should try Final Cut. More control and you don't need to drop in a defined audio track. Not as easy to use as SS ( you using SS Plus ?) however but if you're familiar with PS, then it shouldn't be too hard to learn.

What are you using to capture the audio ? Levels sound weak on my macbook and the volume was spinal tap worthy. Have you considered Vimeo for hosting ? I understand their TOA are not great but it's still a popular place to send videos etc..

If you think this is something you're going to continue to do, maybe look into a good recorder. Edirol, Zoom H4n etc..Not cheap but on board mikes are very good and the Zoom has twin xlr jacks.

audio was captured with an ipod 80 gig and external mic (belkin). i most certainly am looking hard at some of the tascam etc. recorders but want to figure out what exactly i need before i buy.

slide's were put together via imovie (on a macbook/on the bus) and the audio was sliced and diced via AUDACITY.

i am heading into lagos, the niger delta and western chad to shoot a project in 3 weeks and wanted a fast, simple workflow to keep folks at home up to speed when i can.

i have SOUNDSLIDES on the studio mac, PRO TOOLS and FINAL CUT PRO but i don't think i will have time to sort them out before i head out. i am actually spending today stripping down the macbook so it might be IMOVIE and AUDACITY this time around.

i will go take a peek at vimeo now. keep the suggestions flowing!
AUDACITY does have the ability to deal with background ambient noise and to balance the gain etc. i have yet to master it though. i'll keep at it over the next week.

audacity is pretty good for editing. some people like garageband but I've never tried. when you come back, give fcp or fce a go, you'll like it.

audio recorders, well you get what you pay for with these. edirols, zooms and tascam are the popular ones with the odd olympus in there. get one that has uses sd cards instead of built in memory.

figure on spending in the $300-450 Cdn range for a good recorder.

the vimeo video has great quality compared to youtube... the second link was a bit "busy" for me but again better video quality.
