Everglades trip planned

I'm planning a trip down to the Everglades to visit Clyde Butcher's place. Has anyone been there or around the area? I live about 2 hours away and sadly, havent been there yet.

I'm taking my Leica D-Lux 4 and new underwater housing unit for it, in case I drop it in the swamp area. I'm planning to attend the annual Swamp Walk they have there. 2 hours of walking thru the Everglades in knee deep mud with tour guides. Can't think of anything more exciting to do this year.

It's been 11 years since I moved from Ft. Myers to Albuquerque, but when I lived there I would stop by Clyde's place every chance I had. He's the one that got me into large format, even though he thought 4x5 was really a small format.

His patch of swamp is really a neat place to visit. There's usually a parking area at every slough you cross getting to his place. They are all great places to stop and photograph quickly. And there's the Fakahatchee Strand boardwalk which is really great. It's like a half mile long boardwalk back into the Stand.

Tell Clyde hi for me.

Actually for every gator you see there are probably a dozen others watching you.
