Summilux 24/1.4 Happy Snaps

Herewith a couple of 24/1.4 happy snaps taken with the M8.2, IR filter/lens recognition in place.

I'll be going somewhere more interesting soon to try this and the 21/1.4 (which I've also just received), but I thought people might be idly interested. Frances took the shot of me in the kitchen, and I photographed her in the séjour, but this gives some idea of the bokeh, depth of field (both are at f/1.4) and rendering.

I had never considered using a 24mm lens for portraits, let alone a 21mm lens.

Now I'm thinking about it maybe I'll give it a go.

21mm would "behave" like a 28mm (27.3mm aprx) and the 24mm would "behave" between that and a 35mm (31.2mm aprx).

28mm f/1.4 sounds great to me.

I wish one day I could afford to buy that lens. I can only afford used, and since I don't see eBoy flooded with those anytime soon (unless some bidnessman in China starts making knock-offs), I'll just look at the pastry as I slobber the window.

Is that Roger Hicks or Richard Jenkinson (Pitxu) on the right?

Since they both live in the same part of France, they both carry a camera, and they both have beards the people there must be a little confused.

He's got a better beard, but I've got better eyebrows...

Actually we live about 400 miles apart. I have never decided whether we'd be better friends or worse enemies if we were any closer.

Besides, remember that I'll be reviewing it for Shutterbug and for my own web-site, and (probably) Frances will review it for Black and White (haven't discussed it with Liz yet). I just thought a couple of happy-snaps might be of immediate interest. The one of me is the second pic we took with the lens (another of Frances was the first, but it's not very flattering).

Thanks for your kind offer, but in the next few weeks I'm hoping to test it in Arles, and then possibly in Paris. When I've finished using it under all the conditions I can find, I'll ask Solms if I can forward it to you. Seriously, I'm 59 in June. Let's say I have another 20 years. At $6000 that's only $300 a year. Why not? I'm still using the 35 Summilux I bought new in about '83.

Well, there are 6000 reasons why not, I suppose. But the performance is so stunning I may just do it anyway...

this will have to happen as you need the city to truly test the scope and breadth of this lens at night

I find it quite funny on this one that as with my parents move to France you use the french terminology for rooms.

Whenever I visit, my lack of French (german at school and they choose France!) means simple direction within the house confuses me no end. Although with the locals in the village we have a nice hand-signal dictionary rapport

I wait with baited breath for the reviews. I took note that the 21/1.4 has two aspheric lenses, while the 24/1.4 has only one.

In the event that I could ever afford one of them it would be in the far future. I'm living in the realm of a dream, but I am not discounting positive thinking... perhaps one day...

BTW I'm thinking (dreaming) of using it with film.

great lens, would love to see some film samples if you have any. 1.4 is crazy fast for a wide angle like 21mm. I could probably swing the Voigtlander 25/4 right now but would feel I always needed the extra speed... it's a never ending battle in my head
