Petri 7S Shutter Problems

I have a Petri 7S that the shutter will cock and fire if I hold the front of the lens solidly to the left, however if I try to cock it without holding it the shutter doesn't cock. Any ideas?

Your lens is loose, of course.

Lens assembly is mounted on metal plate (under leatherette) which is fastened to body by 4 screws. This is your case if whole lens assembly wobbles. Under lens there's wind extension, activated by shutter set bar under it.

I don't remember well if screws are visible after removing bottom and front covers, or you will need to carefully peel off leatherette - just do it slowly and it will not tear.

If just front of lens wobbles, then it's locking nut under front element, but this shouldn't cause winding problems.

It has been a while since I did one of these, but I am pretty sure you have to peel back the leatherette to get at the screws. Like btgc said, just go very slowly and nothing should tear or stretch. If it looks like it might, then you can resort to an x-acto knife. Don't cut anything, just use it to carefully work the leatherette loose.

I took the bottom off of the camera, (the screws on the bottom can be reached with out removing the leather) one spring was loose, and the cocking mechanism would work if I increased the travel slightly. I reattached the spring and adjusted the cocking mechanism and it seems to be working. The next step will be to shoot a roll of film.

Nice it worked for you. Just a hint on springs there - they are fixed in place by small drop of glue. Last time being there, I replaced one spring with stronger and fixed ends by glue.

Hmmm the drop of glue makes sense. I just bent the spring a little and looped it around. I would guess that I will be back into the camera before long.
