Photogs / Photo Exhibits This is the place to discuss a particular Photographer (work, style, life, whatever), as well as to post Gallery and Museum Photo Exhibitions and your own impressions of them. As we march on in this new digital world, it is often too easy to forget about the visual importance of the photographic print, as well as their financial importance to the photographer. It is also interesting to remember that some guy named Gene Smith shot with lenses that many lens test reading "never had a picture published in their life" amateurs would turn up their their noses at, as being "unacceptable."

Yousuf Karsh exhibition at the Boston MFA

Hi,

I recently went to see the Karsh exhibition at the MFA.
There were around50-100 photos, portraits as well as advertising work, and I was totally blown away by the portraits. Well i new some of them but the total body is amazing. Also the prints were quite large and had an amazing detail, 8x10 !!!

the exhibition only lasts until 1/18, so catch it while you can.

Ciao

joerg

Joerg - thanks for posting this! I went this weekend with a friend and it was a great exhibit! Such an interesting style that was consistent, yet each portrait was different and fresh. I realized how full the frame could be with so little light in a low-key image. He did a wonderful job of including context in many of the images, so as you moved to the next it was obvious you were looking at a scultor, or painter, and so on.

There is a Karsh Exhibit opening up in Chicago this upcoming weekend. I wonder if it's part of the same show, or if the selection will be different.

He's one of my favorite portrait photographers.
