I started my "RF career" with a cheap Ricoh 500GX, just to check the pro and cons of RF patch metering (fixed lens 40mm/2.8). I did fall in love immediately with the RF approach and now I'm somehow bored of the optical SLR matte glass VF metering.
The Hexar RF is my first interchangeable RF. I like the VF with shutter speed information on the far left and the bright RF patch (I have no problem with glasses). At the moment I use only a CV 28/3.5 and this is why I am very fine with the magnification. Outside the 28mm frame the VF could still be used for a 24/25mm lens without separate VF.
The next lens will be a 50mm, which also shouldn't be a problem regarding the magnification. The frame area for 75 and 90 is indeed very small and for 135 not much more than the RF patch. I will give it a try with an inexpensive 90 or 135mm and if it doesn't work I will use it on a magnifying digital body (still thinking about : NEX-7? GXR-M? E-P3?) later on.
Yes, the camera is sturdy, heavy built but feels really good in my hands: I'm even thinking of a second body. I can only guess what the cons of the HRF could be: I don't see any for the moment. But I don't have another model for comparison...
Do you own a HRF too?

Yes, I got a Hexar RF for a very good price in used condition. I sold my Hexar AF to get it. The RFF member who got my Hexar AF gave me an original eye piece that was missing on my HRF.It is a very nice and practical RF camera.

I'm still recovering from my week-long trip to Seattle, and the last-minute photo-shoot gig I took on a few days after returning (the Hexars clocked about 40 rolls' worth in the course of nine days on both coasts). Scanning the hired gig film right now; dropping off the Seattle rolls to the lab either tomorrow or Monday. If I bother to take any camera out this weekend, it'll be either the Contax Tvs or the Nikon P6000. But rain is in Gotham's forecast tomorrow, so I think I'll just chill at home.
Edit: Raid, How are you getting on with your Hexar RF? I've put a lot of film through both of mine in the nine years I've had them. Love 'em as much as the day I bought them. (And, like you, I sacrificed a Hexar autofocus to get the first one.)

Started off the weekend yesterday wandering the Rim Trail at the Grand Canyon, with a medium format SLR and short medium tele. Got traditional sunburn, and it was pretty crowded there, hard to find a place to park.

This weekend I am working with my Sons service dog, Her yearly certification is in a week. As far as photo's, I'm thinking abandoned farm buildings again.

Weekend of July 8-10
It is Friday, and I "am itching" to take photos.
I will start the day tomorrow by meeting with Paul ("Fish") at a local bakery in Pensacola. I am planning to show Paul my "new" Olympus EP-2 with several lenses that I use with this camera. Of course, my two daughters will be there to enjoy Croissant and Chocolate Chip cookie with M&M bits.
That's it for me for the time being. What are your plans?

Absolutely no camera-slinging this weekend: I just returned this afternoon from my local lab with all 18 rolls I shot in Seattle a few weeks back, and I'm going to be a scannin' fool for the next day or two. (Cue Frank Zappa track: "I may be totally wrong but I'm a...").

Shooting the Daytona Prototypes at Laguna Seca with the big Nikon rig. Not my favorite cars but it should be fun all the same.

Just got back from having coffee with Paul. I showed him my Olympus EP-2, and I took a snapshot of him with the old Zeiss 85mm 1.4 wide open. He was sitting too close to me for accurate focusing, but it is a snapshot after all.
The second snapshot is showing Paul's glasses and his left eye in focus! Still, this is our Paul (Fish).

Paul looks as though he has 'attitude' in that first picture
As for me this weekend, it's scanning, cataloguing and (cue the tears) cleaning the big Nikon sensor. This is the first time I've had to do this and though it doesn't phase me, it does exasperate me when I consider my film bodies and the cruddy situations they go through -ah well, ce la vie say the old folks...

no surprise, Raid. I generally try to exude some 'tude ...
i must say i was impressed with Raid's olympus rig with the EVF in place. still very compact. manual focus snapped in and out.
i have three cameras loaded and waiting for the new grandchild to get here. not that i haven't burned off a few frames on family and non-family things while waiting ...

Hi Paul,
I like the EP-2. I don't need a full-sized sensor camera now.
I have to thank Brian Sweeney for selling me his EP-2.

It's so stinking hot here in Texas I'm thinking about going out tonight and shoot some star trails around some old houses. It's miserable during the day.

I thought you looked very statesmanlike ....maybe you should run for office
As for myself it was a small rf meet in Manchester today although I shot a GRD all day and now wish I`d used the M2 and 50 Sonnar.

Hot and muggy here in Miami but at least we have a little sea breeze. Tomorrow, the wife and I are going to Alabama Jack's (bar and waterside restaurant) in the mangroves on the way to the Fla. Keys. Probably will take my stepper IIIc that I brought to the Atlanta get together. It's got a gray body cover now, as the Vulcanite chipped off in the mail back from a DAG repair. It's a beauty now - I'll try to post pics soon.

Spent a good part of the day wondering around the Folk Life Festival on the National Mall snapping candid shots of the people wondering around. Put two rolls of Tri-X @200 through my M6+CV 35mm 1.4.
Plans for tomorrow get up early and process today's film before the ambient temp gets above 70 or degrees, then laze around, after of course taking the dogs for their morning walk

Just returned from shooting a gala-dress graduation party from my high school students.
Certainly got some nice shots, and spotted a few possible future amateur models that I may be working with if they accept my invitation to do so.

I shot 4 rolls at the "Market on Central" here in downtown Fort Dodge, Iowa. My virgin attempt at street photography of any magnitude.

It is weekend again, and it is raining in Pensacola, Florida.
I used the Olympus EP-2 yesterday for photos taken from the kitchen window of rain and plants. The Zeiss 85mm 1.4 did well.
I also used in the late afternoon the Rolleiflex 2.8D TLR for a few family photos.
What are you doing this weekend?

Weekend now over and zero photography I`m afraid.
Heavy rain and wind after a hot spell put an end to the plans that I did have .

Hi Michael,
Try the window approach. There has to be something that can be photographed from one of the windows in your home.
