Depth of field notches on rf patch

Hi, often wondered - how do you use the DoF notches on the rf patch on the M2?

Thx

I assume its the same as the M3..

..in which case, if something has both of its overlaid images (imagine a vertical line, just out of focus) within the width of the notch it will be acceptably in focus. The wider notch at f16, the narrow notch at f5.6

I have been using M2's for 49 years and I must admit I have never bothered to figure out the notches! Every time I try to do it - I get a headache! Maybe someone can to a simple explanation of it! I think it is one of those cases of german engineering overkill!

Thanks Ted

I thought that would probably be it, but didn't know which aperture each was for. Cheers.

Now I'll see if I ever have a chance to use them!

Here's instructions (but the marks are still pretty useless):

Tom,

Thank you for this post. I can now hold my head high again and shake off the shame of not knowing how to use the notches.
