Leica M6 DIY repair

i was shooting some street images in India when my long shutter times suddenly went dead. When i set it at, say, 1/30 the shutter releases, but the curtain does not follow through. If I then move the shutter dial to 1/50 or above, the curtain springs in place. All times from flash (1/50) to 1/1000 work, so I guess it's a gear problem. Judging from the few documents I found on M-series DIY stuff (one called 'M2 overhaul', another 'Factory tips on the M-series'), I suppose it to be a minor mechanical problem with the escapement. I have dis- and reassembled a Kiev 4, so I'm not exactly scared of DIY, but the M6 also carries a different price tag, so the idea is a bit intimidating. Your thoughts?

Perhaps you shouldn't do it unless you know exactly what you're doing: even with an M2.
