Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

OOOH. Are you serious!!? They're upgrading the framlines as well!?

Fantastic. At least they aren't doing the canon thing where You'll have to buy a whole new camera to get a modest feature upgraded. I'll be sending mine out for upgrade within the month.

I wonder if the independent Leica repair technicians can order the parts and do the upgrade?

The USA site doesn't list the frameline upgrade as an option. Hope that's an oversight...

Just Reserved my Update

Just got off the phone with New Jersey - they have 100 M8 owners in line, looking at around mid-November, says they can only do about 7-8 M8's a week, 2 week turnaround. I asked if they can install parts to make the on-off switch stiffer if I pay for said parts, but she checked and the answer is no : (

Shutter, Glass and Framelines = $1,700

This isn't meant as a 'bash', but isn't the brightline upgrade more of a fix than an upgrade? My understanding from M8 users is that they had a lot of problems accurately framing with the original framelines.

Well, they have not shipped mine back, am hoping they were practicing the upgrades on mine, well, I can dream.

I just got the email as well, am not entirely sure what is being done here and what is being shipped out.

Aside from the weak dollar, it seems like a good idea, someone will find a $3K+ camera and get it upgraded?

Regards, John
