Fed4 Cla?
So, as some of you may have noticed from another thread, I've been looking at my minty FED4 recently.
It is in smashing condition, a fairly early Type B, and I realised yesterday afternoon that the meter is still working and accurate.
So, maybe this one is ore than just a junker...
The main issue is that something funny's goingon when I look through the VF, I think the RF mirrors are way out of kink. I can see on the two edges some image, then I get black strips with a blurry circle in the center. Any ideas as to what has caused this?
Also, I think the shutter curtains need a ook at, they seem aligned a tad weirdly...
So, the question is, who to send it to?
Who has the FED4 gift? Who is the top dog of red RFs? Who is... Ah, that's enough for now.
Tom

If you're in the US, www.fedka.com. If in Europe, www.okvintagecamera.com. You'll find that both are well spoken of on this and other forums.

The VF problem sounds like the the prisms are separating...there are no mirrors in the VF, it's done by two half-prisms glued together with Canada Balsam. If the glue is breaking down it can allow air in and the blacked-out parts you are noticing are the result.

I sent a Fed-3 to fedka for CLA and shutter replacement, and was very happy with the work.

Sent my Fed 3(b) to Yuri at Fedka a few weeks ago for new shutter and CLA, got it back nine days after I put it in the mail to them. It's wonderfully slick and quiet now, and I can't say enough about the quality of the work. Fast, too.
Because of the way they treated me on the Fed, I sent them my Zorki-6 today for CLA and to smooth up the shutter release. I believe good service deserves repeat customers.
