Is this a developing error?

Note the dark band across the image:

It happens on all frames on the roll...

Have to finish the next roll and see if it's on that I guess.

My guess would be a shutter problem - it looks like the shutter sped up for a brief moment, underexposing a band on the negative. (I'm assuming this is from a camera whose shutter travels horizontally with the camera in landscape orientation.)

a pinhole hole in the shutter could cause that....I don't think it is developing, it is too regular looking and too perfect and mechanical.

It looks like the shutter bounce that recently plagued my Canon P.

At the end of his post he said it was on every frame, so it's too consistent to be a light leak. My money's on the shutter.

I've never encountered it myself, but wouldn't shutter bounce add exposure rather than reducing it? The dark band appears to be an area of reduced exposure like you would get if the shutter were running too fast.

In my case, it was a dark band next to a light band. Like in this pic...

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/foru...9&d=1211808633

So perhaps bounce was only part of my problem.

As it happens, the problem isn't totally solved...after CLA, I am still getting a narrow light band in 1 photo in 10. So I think I'll send it back for re-adjustment...

Benno, when the shutter went wonky on my IIIf, it didn't do it at all speeds so don't assume that because it is something else. By the way, it looked like your problem. I sent it out for a CLA, I've done that twice with this camera in 45 years. That is pretty good service from something that was built in 1953 or '54, or maybe '52.

I would concur with most of the feedback. When I attempted to use my Canon IIB I discovered the same horizontal banding, but in my case there were light streaks as well. I was looking for some sample images, but have not been able to put my hands on them as yet. I will post them when located. In my case I had to replace my shutter curtains.

Thanks guys,
Bugger, it does sound like it's the shutter. I'll see what the next roll looks like.

I think I need a real CLA.

try a roll of slide and a trusted lab.

Could even be something on the back surface of the lens casting a shadow...

Looks like the two curtains are not in sync. Seems as if the second curtain is speeding up (dark band at top), slowing down then speeding up as it closes (dark band at bottom by arms).

Or the first curtain is off in like travel.
