Who to recommend for M2 CLA

Hey everybody, i just recieved my first leica, it is an M2. Unfortunately the shutter speed seems a bit slow, the shutter release makes a loud high pitch squeak, and the film advance does not seem that smooth. So the seller on e*ay was kinda enough to refund me some money to get a CLA done. I have looked through the threads on here and heard good and bad stuff about Leica repairs and am able to put forth the money to get it done correctly the first time. Can someone please recommend me someone in the US that can do good work in a reasonable amount of time?

Thanks,
Tim

what is the price range for a CLA, do i have to note what is wrong with it or does the CLA include a full inspection. i do not know the workings too well so i would hope for the latter.

I don't have an M2 but Youxin Ye did a IIIf RD for me. Slow speeds were not working and others off. VF & RF needed cleaning. It needed a new eyepiece. I was concerned that the shutter curtains might be worn. Youxin tested, cleaned and corrected everything necessary, even replacing the latch on the bottom plate when he found a light leak due to wear on the old one. He turned it around in just over a week for money and fair words. His communication throughout was excellent. Highly recommended.

Youxin Ye received 5 cameras from me (CLA, VF cleaning, shutter adjustments, replacement of M4 levers against M3-style levers) and the cameras always came back very well serviced. Turn-around time (Japan -> USA -> Japan) was usually in the time of 10 days and very reasonable priced.

Over in Yurop (Netherlands), I can heartily recommend Will van Manen. He CLA'd my M2 to full working order.

Tim,

If you are in the states, absolutely give Youxin a try. Very very reasonable and fast too.

If you have any problems in the US, there are CRR and Malcolm Taylor in the UK who do superb work and tend not to be quite so busy.

Regards,

Bill

My M2 was CLA'd by Youxin Ye, including a replacement of the shutter curtains, and it operates flawlessly. It's the smoothest winding Leica M I've owned.

Youxin CLA'd my m2, and five screw-mount Leica's for me. Great work, fast turn-around time, and very good prices.
