Click the link and watch the Bruce Gilden video. Any idea what camera and lens combo he is using? If it says. I have no sound on my computer....Still worth a view. He is insane.

The only certainty is it's a dSLR. Otherwise it is impossible to tell just from viewing this video clip and he does not say.

I see he shoots with a black camera - less conspicuous?

Not the "Jamel Shabazz" video - he meant the YouTube video in the "How Does Bruce Gilden Do It?" section of the aforementioned site. It's certainly a Leica M with a wide-angle lens <= 28mm...

The body is definitely a standard issue black paint MP. The lens looks like either a pre-asph Elmarit 28 or Summicron 28 asph.

Talk about getting in people's face! Interesting character, though the pics didn't do much for me. Sometimes it would nice to have his nerve.

I doubt it's a MP because his technique looks like he is using TTL flash, taking ambient light meterings separately and using fill-in flash to give some extra lighting from the side. This won't work with an MP, you need either an M6TTL or an M7.

Looks like a M7 to me, since it has a centered knob for light-value saving.

Ah yes, I see it now...

At first I thought it as an M4-2 or M4-P. But it is definitely a BP MP - there is one patch in the video clip where you can see the RW knob, the accessory crank, and the worn black paint. The camera has a metal Leitz accessory finder on the hot-shoe and the flash is plugged into the back on a chord.

The lens looks like a 28mm pre-asph Elmarit-M, but that is just a guess.

At 3:13 of the clip, there's a clear view of the back. The film advance lever is MP-style. Either an MP or a an a la carte M7 made to look like an MP. Only in NYC.....

You can plainly see the standard Leica script on the top plate, just as they are on stock MP's. And seeing as you can't get an A-la-carte M7 with a MP styled rewind knob, that kinda rules that option out. In the video, you can see that it has an accessory crank attached.

Geeks, are we.

Oh, and the reason why I believed the lens to be a pre-asph Elmarit 28 or a Summicron 28 ASPH is because of 1) the size/profile and both of the lenses are almost identical. 2) But, it's the hood design that is a tell tale sign in this video. And again, both of those lenses had a similar hood. And 3) the image results simply look like a 28 to me, as shooting with anything wider than that at close distance would distort people's faces a bit more than they appear here.

I just got done watching National Treasure. So of course, I'm just having fun sleuthing. It matters little if it's actually right.
