Wacky ebay '35 prices!
Have you guys over there in the States all become millionaires? I see there's a guy on eBay selling two Trip 35s 'Buy It Now only' (ie not auctions) for $166.99 and $160.99. Look here: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/TUA-Used-Photo-Equip and search on "trip"
For $160 I think I'd be wanting about ten of them...
He sure must have pots of money to waste on listing-fees. What's he been smokin'
(EDIT: sorry, just realised I posted this in the wrong section...Trip 35 is obviously not a rangefinder...)

I got a nice one (Trip35) for $10 on ebay, crazy. The shipping was around $10, too. I don't know what listing fees are, but they must be small for that to pay off.

This guy has high prices too. He actually sells about 10-20% of
his items at the high prices.
I suspect he re-lists the unsold items under another ID at lower
prices.

Yeah i cant figure out these prices.
Last year i bought my cheapest camera ever on ebay. It was an Oly Trip for 1cent. Yep, only 1 cent, and he insisted i pay with paypal also.
I got the camera and it was in great condition. I won a local photo comp with it also, so it's now one of my favourite cameras.
I thought Trips that were selling for $20 was expensive at first, anything over $50 is a rip off, no matter how good the condition is.

I think that would depend on what you're actually getting for your money. There's a guy in Ireland selling Trips for something like €150 (not sure how that translates into your local currency) but for that price you get a camera which has been completely stripped to its component parts, cleaned (including all the lens components), lubed, rebuilt, new seals, and comes guaranteed (six months I think). Unlike the dreamer I posted a link to at the top of this thread who seems to be wanting the same money for any old tat.

150!
It'd better be gold plated for that sort of money.
Theres nothing to these cameras (theres no fancy electronics or mechanics). They're so common its not funny. Easy to test. Plus they're so easy to take apart and work on.
I'm sorry, but i cannot understand why anybody would be happy paying that sort of money for a humble little Oly Trip. Dont get me wrong, I love these little cameras and still use one occasionally, but they're not worth anything near that sort of money.
I see plenty of pristine Trips sell for around $20 (not the dodgey mint- conditions described on ebay). Theres plenty of reasonably priced ones around luckily.
But best of luck to that guy in Ireland, hopefully he's found a nice niche.

Some people delude themselves into thinking about selling stuff at these prices. I recall a Canonet going for over $200... and there was a Yashica Electro offered for $1600 some years ago.

He is one of the highest priced sellers on ebay. I guess he actually sells some of those items. But it must be to brand new buyers who know nothing about cameras either. Probably turns them off from any further pursuits of photography.

The better-made earlier ones (more metal inside, silver button and polished hotshoe) are getting progressively less common. These are the ones he tends to sell fully rebuilt and warrantied for up to 150 depending on absolute condition and what covering you specify.
I do hear what you say but if you really want THE best then he appears to be the only person (on ebay, at least) offering his type of service. Yes, there are plenty Trips around (particularly the later black-button type) but even these are 24+ years old, all the lot ideally needing stripping down and cleaning to be of their best. Unavoidably, 24+ years of dust on lens elements (which certainly aren't hermetically sealed), many with sticky shutter-blades, the film-chamber seals and internal seals getting gooey with age, etc etc.
I too wish him well. Definitely a nichι market, but I've never ever seen anyone else so confident of their work they're prepared to put a no-quibble warranty on rebuilt used equipment that's technically between 24-40 year's old. What you get back from him is by all accounts a new camera, bar any cosmetic impefections he couldn't repair. He's been doing it six years so I guess it must pay off. He'll also strip & rebuild customers' own cameras as well for between 50 and 65 depending what model they've got, how rare it is in terms of spares and what needs fixing.
