Those pics are downright cruel. I've never really wanted to own a Nikon rangefinder ... but the more I look the more I realise that one day I have to!

Nice!
One day I'll get down to doing the same with a bumper Zorki.

Thanks Jon. I already had one of them, which you mailed. But I haven't decided yet, should SP and Sonnar replace my Angelina Jolie -wallpaper or Olympus Pen F -wallpaper (from official Olympus wallpaper collection)?
You made the shots with 105mm Micro-Nikkor & D200, didn't you Jon? May I ask, what was you flash setup or did you use just available light?

That's right Jari, I mainly use an AIS 105/2.8 Micro Nikkor on a D200. I have a Katzeye focusing screen in the D200 and it makes focusing MF lenses a real pleasure. As for lighting, I use a small light box with one or two diffused lights. I rarely use flash. My technique still needs a lot of work though. I'm not a patch on the guys that do these type of shots for a living.
P.S. I vote that you replace the Oly Pen-F with the SP2005, and keep Angelina

Jon it is time for you to buy a classic black SP, one with a lot of brassing.

Take the price of a mint SP 2005 and add the price of all the gold dust you could cover every brassing area with on that classic heavily brassed black SP you covet.

Are you working for Arsenal?
My question was actually serious; a Nikon RF and the SP in particular is pretty much the only 35mm camera I could be interested in at the moment, judging by the rave talk. I've never seen one over here though.

My answer was serious too. And - no, Boris isn't my good friend.
If you want a classic SP go for a decent chrome one. Classic black SPs are rarely seen, plus they are just out of sight, price wise.

Black SP prices are all over the place, they used to be cheap, but now a brassed one would cost a bit more than the reissue SP.

what Keith said...
Jon, what's that little pink button (most viewable in Wallpaper 4) it looks kinda out of place...
Gosh, those cameras are so clean, I'd be afraid to use them.

Nice gear photos. I've been wondering for a few years what it would be like - and the cost - if Leica was to make a NEW M3. Thought it may happen with a 'real' 50th 'anniversary' M-series camera, but it didn't (and the closest Leica got to it was the MP3 which just doesn't cut it). The SP 2005 is as close as it gets to having a NEW professional quality [based on] 1950s [technology] camera. Just the best made camera anyone has made in recent years. We're lucky that a company like Nikon had the dedication and know-how to make it. For my money I'd rather have a new camera made this well than an old camera at the same price (or actually much more here in the Japan market for a used SP black) even if the mystic is with the original.
And they actually surpassed the superb original lenses with the re-issues.

I've seen/handled a few vintage black SPs in Tokyo, but they're not cheap. I could probably buy 1.5 to 2 SP 2005 kits for what they go for, and the SP 2005 kit comes with the added bonus of a multi-coated 3.5cm f1.8 lens. So rather than buy a "pre-brassed" vintage black SP, I'm going to brass up my SP 2005 myself by using it

Get busy... it is sure best to do it yourself. Buying it pre-brassed is kind of like buying pre-washed jeans.

Jon. speaking from experience here. The first brass starts showing after about 200 rolls and by 500 you start to have nice edge brassing. The really brassy ones usually require 4-5000 rolls. It is a hard job, but it also makes the camera much more valuable to you!

Thanks for the milestones, Tom A That's going to take some time so I'd better get to it! I just loaded my SP 2005 with a roll of Velvia 100, and am heading to Kamakura for the afternoon. I'll burn a roll or two strolling around the temples there

I like Kamakura and the bright colors of the temples. The giant bronze Buddah is great for testing lenses too. Last time I was there I saw a very serious gentleman wandering around with a Contax II and the 50f1.5.
