apology on closed thread

I would like to issue an apology to Back Alley with regard to a recent closed thread. One of my comments was interpreted as a slight against Joe, and I would like to clarify that Joe was not the target of the comment. Joe is a great guy, and does a good job as moderator, even though I do disagree with him from time to time.

WRT to charities- it is kinda nice that most charities don't vet whether contributors are profane or not. BTW, two words in seven letters means "yea, sure" in my book. Kinda like BFD means "big friendly dog".

Hey, I am from the upper Midwest US, and was raised in polite mode by strict but loving parents. Sometimes I stray.

dex
i appreciate the clarification dex.
it seemed like a giant middle finger extended my way for what i would say was a tongue in cheek comment, plus it was surprising as i thought we got along pretty well prior.

your public apology shows a very classy act...

Very classy. Me? Personally? I never apologize. Even when I'm clearly in the wrong. Even if I've upset someone very badly. T' hell wif em.

Be nice to Joe guys.

I am feeling a bit under the weather and have been doing a lot of sleeping instead of browsing over the past few weeks. Kim is busy with his duty. Good news I guess is that Stephen is busy with work, congrats to him.

But Joe is our consistent leader. Help him out a bit till the rest of us get back up and running.

the thread was closed for several reasons but my being insulted was not one of them.

Today I posted an angry thread as well. I hope it gets locked.

We live in an age where human emotions are suppressed and you're not even allowed to be angry anymore!

*sigh*

A related problem is that internet communications have a tiny fraction of the information of a face-to-face encounter. Without facial expressions, tone of voice, and other body language... misinterpretation becomes rampant. When the speaker is emotional about a topic, matters only get worse. On a web forum, there's no chance to quickly gauge reactions and clarify either. We've been trying to make up the gap with little emoticons and such since the dawn of the internet; these measures are still but drops against the ocean....

Peace all..

I didn't realize internet forums were all about an individual to expressing their own rants and emotions.

Just curious Nh3, how old are you?

Golly... that admission will probably entitle you to a 200 post bonus on your post count. Before you know it you'll be a well-established part of the RFF inner circle. Good going... keep it up!

p.s. Did you know that as the thread originator you can do better than ask for it to be locked; you can delete the original post and the whole mess will disappear. Might help your rep.

I've nuked a lot of my threads when they veer off the path that I intended for them to go.

I've made well over 10,000 posts to this forum.

As well intended as threads like this are, they tend to open the old wounds and lead to more flamewars.

In response to the original thread that was closed, I was going to start a thread for everyone to post their problems with international shipping. I've had the customs office of the recipient country return items because they were marked as gifts and/or undervalued "in their opinion". Especially fun when you are returning a repaired lens to someone.
