Upgrade Video Card?

My son, a sixteen year old gamer, just installed a 256mb ATI 9600XP video card in his computer, which is, of course, the fastest in our house.

This leaves me with the option of replacing my 32mb Savage4 with his "old" card, a GE Force 5200 128mb.

My quesiton is, is this worth it for me, photographically speaking? Will I see improvement in processing time for pictures, using the GIMP or other such programs?
Will my monitor's display improve?

My current CPU is a 1ghz AMD with 512mb of ram, running Linux and Win 98.

The only issue is if decent drivers exist for the card. I really don't know what is supported in x86 Linux these days, but it would be what you need to check first.

Meaning that you think, if drivers are there, that I would see an improvement?

I really dont think it will be a speed thing, but the colors might actually be better on the geforce. Also I bet that card has digital output so that you have the option to get a better monitor. I also think nvidia is pretty good with linux drivers, but take a look at their website before you do anything.

If its a nVidia card, they will most likly have drivers for it for linux. But put it this way. Its much better than your 32 meg savage card. Download the drivers for both 98 and linux then install it and enjoy
