Any advice on finding a good Canon P?

Hi;

Really like to get a Canon P (well, really like to get an M3 or M4, but...). Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I might find an Exc or better Canon P? I see a couple on eBay right now, but would prefer to buy from a RFF member or supporter.

Thanks.

You could also check www.keh.com. They had one for $199 a few days ago. jiri_e on eBay is well regarded around here as well.

Got mine from keh. Excellent. $199. jiri_e is the man on ebay, I second that. adorama had one a few weeks ago.

hmmm... just took a look. None left at keh, none at adorama (look under Leica thread mount, not Canon) Other places to check on periodically are Pacific Rim Camera http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/ and kevins cameras - Ha! He has a black paint canon p for "only" $2k! He IS expensive, i think. I'd stick with jiri_e on ebay, I think.

Ouch - 2k$ - bet its nice! Thanks for the ideas - I'll keep an eye on them. Also posted an ad in the Wanted to Buy section, so hopefully someone has a good one that they would part with.

I can recommend Jiri. I got a P and a 7 from him and they're tops.

Here's a nice black paint one that just sold on ebay, for only $2,800:

Since I assume you want one for pic taking, you absolutely don't want a black one. They are rare, as few were originally made, and there are many more fakes around than real ones. Purely for the collectors' now.

I bought a nice chrome P from KEH years ago, and it has been a little gem. Ebay is a crapshoot, except for known sellers, who have a good reputation that they earned.

Good luck, it's a great camera, and doesn't stack up badly against the M-series... beautifully made, top quality materials.

BTW, the one that just sold on eBay wasn't a bad deal. It is in very nice condition, and it also has the black meter (rare item) and what appears to be the black version of the 1.2. All in all, a very scarce and lovely shelf queen.

Thanks - yes, looking for a user, but I'm particular about taking care of my equipment, so I want a good one to start. Thanks for the direction. I think that the collector world is a bit out of my reach! Besides, I'd have to use them - couldn't let them just sit there!

No foolin' that's a beautiful package. I didn't even know they made any black paint lenses!

Check also at: www.ritzcam.com. I've gotten a couple of cameras and several lenses from them.

If you're still looking, I have one on *bay right now. Bought it as Exec++ and sent it to Mark Hamma for a CLA. Then I ran across a deal on a boxed Leica M4-p with a couple of Summicrons... so it's off to the Leica part of the forum for me. I'm on the 'bay as zbgreen. A couple of lenses as well and i can do a little better on the price for someone who's a member of the forum.

Mark Hama has my Canon P as we speak. I can verify he does a hell of a job with his CLA. What's surprising is the recent price jump on the Canon P - less than a year ago I got one at KEH for $199. Now, that just seems like an incredible deal. Can this go even higher? We need to quit telling folks how grand a camera this is.

I just got a p and 50/1.8 on ebay for about $400. Just got it and it's in awesome condition. I'll sell the 1.8 lens since I have a 1.4 that I got for $87 and gave a cla myself. A little higher than normal price but the condition was there.
