I once saw a Nikon S3 box offered for $400.

I agree: wonders never cease!

I've been looking for one of these for years.

How much do you think a good CLA would cost?

I suppose that in the spirit of the recent pinhole thread you could stick a pin in this thing and have world's only pinhole camera with a genuine Leitz SN written on it.

Last summer, I tossed an M6 box on ebay, thinking it would sell for $10 or $20. I
think the bidding took it up to $120 before it was over. I was absolutely floored.

Funny, you could treat it like an unofficial rebate. As long as you're sure you're going to keep your Leica, ebay the box and get $100+ of your money back.

Is it in 'Collector' condition, or 'User' condition?

If it has factory spec seals and a brick inside how much is it worth?

Gotta be a fake !!!!!!

But seriously folks, I have seen this same box phenomena in the toy train collecting world. It has gotten to the point that you can by "authentic" reproduction Lionel boxes to put your Lionel trains in.

I have to admit that now anytime I buy new Lionel equipment, I keep the boxes in as good a condition as I can. Who knows maybe my kids can sell the boxes for lots of money someday......

That thing needs to be re-skinned and re-alined. I wouldn't pay more than 200$ for that. And then I need to get the M3. Crikey.

LOL, I remeber at a camera fair (the first and last I went ) when a seller yelled at me because I opend a cardboard box to see the lens inside... there was no lens of course...
He said I was going to damage the box opening it without reason...

And it was a Rokkor 35 f1,8 box, not even a German box...

I hate to think of the 'posh' boxes I've used over the years to mail jars of chilli beans or jelly to friends and family.

Crap. All the razor sharp, f1.4 Aspherical pics in the world won't make up for collector stupidity like this. Too bad Leica can't separate the 'real' camera division from the 'Lladro Figurine' division.

I know this sort of bullsh*t isn't Leica's fault but at times it makes we want to sell all my Leica gear and get away from equipment that can even support this type of mentality. I'd like to buy it and burn it in front of anyone who would even consider paying a premium price for a bloody cardboard camera box!

Wow! I'm sitting on a goldmine! I was in the attic getting down the Christmas decorations and found the boxes for both my M6 bodies, the box for my very old Leitz Trinovid binoculars and the box for the binocular case.

Think there's a market for the CV lens boxes or the Canon EOS boxes?

Okay. Now there's a solution that will stop the craziness!

It's those Schrodingers Cat ones that get me laughing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schrodingers_cat

Sealed boxes with a rare Leica inside (?).

How do you know there's a rare Leica inside unless you open it, and if you've opened it to verify that it's genuine then it's not a sealed box any longer.

I've heard of people sending the boxes through x-ray machines to ensure there's something inside.

Wouldn't you love to put a Holga in a sealed Leica box!
