Kodak BW400CN & Vuescan

Hi scanners,

What settings for "B/W brand" and "B/W type" in the "color tab" of Vuescan do you
use for scanning the Kodak B/W400 CN film ?

From what I've already read on this forum, this film should scan well.

Examples are very welcome !

Thanx.

Try this:

Input: Media:BW negative
Input: Bits per pixel: 16 bit grey

then, go to the "color" tab:

Color: B/W vendor: Generic
Color: B/W brand: Color
Color: B/W type: Negative

The preset colour profiles do not always work. When they do, they sometimes don't read the negative right, owing to factors like variations in film batch or film processing which leads to equally variable dye densities.

And as with any other scan, the scanner+scanner software output isn't often the best. Almost every scan has to be tweaked to some degree to produce a proper picture.
