Reasonalble price for an Hexar AF?

Hi,

I was wondering if some of you know what a fair price on those cameras is. A local shop has got a black one for about $600, which I think is a lot. Though they sell it with 1 year guaranty...

If it were like new, and came with a 1 year warranty, I'd buy it for $500.
One just sold in the RFF classifieds with an asking price of $400.
The lens alone is worth the price.

I hear that the lens is so good =)

I went yesterday to try and have a closer look at it. The conditions were used but reasonable, though the battery was drained, so I wonder if they even tried it themselves ...

Thanks for the input!!

That price is high. Query ebay's completed listings, and you'll see that they sell from around $330 to over $500. I bought my black Hexar from KEH for $299. It was in what KEH calls bargain condition, but I would have rated it at Very good to Exc. However. The Konica Hexar has a known issue w/ the shutter button contacts. Mine was not holding focus when you pressed the shutter all the way down from it's half pressed position. It probably had some corrosion on the contacts, possibly from non use. I played around w/ it by turning it off and pressing the shutter button hard a couple of dozen times. When I turned the camera back on it worked fine. I don't think you can even get the parts to fix this anymore, but repair people can usually take the camera top off and pull the shutter button apart and clean the contacts. So, $100 to $200 over probable retail for the camera you are looking at could save you a lot in the longer run, assuming it is a warranty that is honered, and pays 100%. Myself, when I saw the downside of possibly owning a $299 paperweight, I sold mine on ebay. I priced it at $370 and it was gone in a few hours.

Well, the value of those cameras must have gone up.
They go on the bay for about $500, the silver version, not forgetting the possibilities of ebay's "treasures", it makes $600 for a black one with guaranty look like a good deal ....

Ebay prices tend to be somewhat cyclical, for some reason, and right now we're in another "high." I've noticed lots of film cameras of interest to me going for what are historically pretty high prices, especially on Fuji medium format cameras. Don't know if this is just a funny cycle, or the weak dollar, or what, but I've been unhappily amazed at what people are paying right now. Just my two cents.

too much.

I got mine (black) for 200 euro. That included two cases, the flash, three spare batteries, a 4x nd filter, dutch and english manuals and a few rolls of outdated film.

dunno. I have seen a few going for 200-ish price here in NL.
Maybe it is not such a hype in Europe.

I have one.
For a 85-90% new, w flash, manual, box, $390 or under is good price. Silver is quiet enough for me.
I am digital now, but I am keeping the Silver.
Good luck.

I agree, ebay's prices do cycle up and down. It's easy to gauge. Apparantly, if I am buying they are high, and if I am selling they are low. I just ck'd, and a black one just sold for $450. The low price for a black one on the completed listings was $335, and the high was $579.09, but that is artificially high as it came w/ it's original box, flash and soft case. I am pretty sure the silver ones can be upgraded to be stealth, use auto bracketing, etc. You have to program in the codes, and the procedure is on the web if you look for it. I was really impressed w/ how well the auto focus and program mode worked on mine. The 1/250 top shutter speed was not easy to compensate for, and a 35mm lens is a little too wide for me, but I do regret selling mine. It was a great handling camera.

I just have mine for about two weeks. I baught an ND filter for it to use during sunny weather. Lately around NYC the weather has been cloudy and rainy so I'll do fine with the top shutter speed. I also use it for when I go to the galleries in my neighborhood. I can shoot indoors without tipping anyone off. The Hexar and the Bessa seem to be magnets for people. They often stop me and ask about them. Some are so used to seeing digital and others think they are leicas and are perplexed. I wish more women would stop though. So far dogs have it all over cameras as magnets for the ladies.

By the way myoptic3 $370.00 was exactly what I paid for my Hexar on Ebay.
