Question Poll: what about displaying the picture of the winner on the front page?

Dear members, dear friends
Obviously, we need more contests, more competitions. But competitions entails awards, prizes, whatever. However, material prizes should be marginal at most. A big prize does not attract more creativity than a small prize, only more confusion, temptations to cheat, and flame wars.
So we thought of a solution to liven up the RFF Salon: the RFF Salon would more attractive if the winner’s picture was displayed on the front page of RFFl; obvioulsy, each month, it would be replaced by the next monthly winner. It seems to be an appropriate way to award the winner, to encourage members to participate in the Salon and to display nice pictures on the front page.

We need your massive support in order to suggest this idea to Stephen Gandy. So, please feel free to discuss this idea here and vote if you want to show your support.

I think displaying winner’s picture for a month is a good idea.

You mean (a) a picture of the winner or (b) the winning picture ?

I think (b) is a great idea.

Roland.

Not everyone would agree with this premise.

Agreed, one reason why.

I like the front page as it is. An image on the top of the front page will require more scrolling down to get to the other stuff---in essence pushing all that down.

Perhaps put the winner on the front of the Gallery pages, which is where people who want to see images go to see images.

Hi Rich,
As far as I know, the winnig picture would be displayed under the Photo Village banner. So it wouldn't change anything for you as you already have to scroll down to see the other stuff.
Best,
marc

Really? As in a tiny little thumbnail under the PV banner on the right side? Not very visible there is it? I think a 400 pixel-wide image at the top of the Gallery page would be better....just my thought.

I want to add a proposal to be implemented by contest:

Two logos given to the winners:

First time winner will receive Avatar of kind "Magic Roll" in silver.
Second time winner will receive gold "Virtuoso" logo embeded in his potfolio image

Logos must be photos, but manupulated by software, of course

What do you think?
