Repair: how to put back the prism in a turret VF ?

Hello, after a thorough disassembly & clean of my universal turret vf from KMZ, i'm stuck with how to put back the two prisms and a sort of cylindrical metallic item. Anyone has ever done this?

Hi Max,

I've made 2 scans from Maizenberg's book, hope that helps you.
The metal piece comes above the inner prism (see file0004). There is only one suitable position where all fits in :-)

Thank you! I'm trying to get it, obviously i'm very unskilled. When I put it "right", the VF is totally blurred (while i cleaned everything) ...

The prisms form a Schmidt-Pechan prism, look it up somewhere like Wikipedia, from there you can see the arrangement. The simpler part goes in first, with the little flat piece at the bottom. Next the round spacer goes in at the top, sideways on. Finally the roof-prism slides in, with it's "roof" at the bottom.

Be careful with the prisms, I think some of the faces are coated (or at least they should be for it to work best)

ON a related topic, I have disassembled and cleaned the Leica VIOOH finder and fortunately that one is relatively easy to both disassemble and reassemble. You do not even need any guide. I had a go at mine too. (taking note of how the prisms went back) The prisms look like they are going in wrong even when they are correct, and the metal tube had me baffled for a while till meddling about found the correct location

Thanks to everyone above. My multi-viewfinder was terribly dusty inside, too.

However when I removed the prisms there was no metal split ring. Just the 2 prisms. What is it's function and size and shape? Maybe I can make one or substitute something else to do the job?

Replacing the 1st prism was a bit of a puzzle despite all the help. I finally worked out it stands on the unpolished 'flat' and the second one wedges up one side.

The split-ring is actually a rolled-up circular tube - like a roll-pin if you know what that is. It's just a spacer that sits in the V-shaped space between the two prisms. I don't think it's vital and you could make one up easily enough, it doesn't have to be rolled-up steel like the original.

OK - thanks for that. I have some stainless steel wire here about .7mm and I imagine it would be something like 5mm diameter by say, 3mm deep. Just to keep things in their place. (like the government).

Obviously it has survived some time without the spring but there is that 'niggle' that maybe I orta put a replacement in there. mmmmmmmmm ... anal.

There seems to be enough friction from the housing to stop the prisms floating around because it functions fine, but now I know there is some thing missing in my life! :-)
