MP, what do i get?

Hello all

I am thinking of getting a used MP. I am using a M2 now and I wonder what functions besides the built in meter I would get.
If the differences between the two are small then I might just get a CLA for my M2 .

So what do you think?


P.S. I don't know my exact budget because my thirtiest birthday is coming up and my parents wanted to buy me a small car, but I said forget the car I am a Leica junkie, I just need money or store credit
So we will see.
Best case scenario is MP and 50 asph. My heartbeat goes up just writing about it.

See the other thread on buying the ala carte MP elsewhere on RFF. It asks a similar question. My advise - the M2 is probably beter than the MP, altough lacking a meter. Get the Cosina outboard meter, spend your mopney on some really nice condition M bodies. I recommend the M4 and M5. Use the rest on lenses. You will have more camera and be better satisifed in the long run.

Hi,

last year I bought a MP and I'm happy with here,
last saturday I got a M2.
One for 100 ASA,
the other for 400 ASA.
The MP has a lightly better viewfinder
and of course the superb lightmeter.
I never will change my MP to a other one,
but the M2 is also a wondefull masterpiece of technik.

Go for a MP and you will be happy the next films,
a perfekt lightmeter and a real all in one solution.

In these days I fight with many separate lightmeters,
non of them are so comfortable like the one in the MP.

The M2 is without question a better-built camera compared to the MP. Get a CLA, a good light meter (or become a student of "sunny sixteen"), and the car.

Leica's real problem is that they have never really improved upon the M since it was introduced, and now there are so many that nobody needs to spend thhe huge sums for a new one. The M2 and M3 are nearly perfect cameras, just as they are. Get a good light meter, become a Sunny 16 student (as BillBlackwell suggests) and soon you won't miss the internal meter at all. Don't bother spending more money on a lesser camera.

Take the car.

You lose these:
- a stepless shutter release
- an uncluttered viewfinder
- a full 50mm frameline
- a drop-in spool loading system

Im going to add a MP to my M2 and the M6 LHSA BP thats on order...maybe a M3 and a M4 after that...

On some other lists, the advice seemed to be that an M6 was about the same, at a lower cost.
However, I just got myself a Gossed Digisix light meter, which is very small and give readings for both reflected and incident light. They also have a flash version.

I have opted for not spending more on cameras, because I found that I was reluctant to take them out on the street.
Get a CLA and a new light meter.

Right you are!

Get the MP, the CLA for your M2 and some lenses instead of the car!

Buy 10 films instead of each filling at the gasstation!

Save the world a lot of CO and CO2 and walk on your very own feet. You cannot hold a camera while driving a car, and when a nice subject for a photo turns up, you can be sure that there is no opportunity to park the car.

CLA the M2 and buy a Nocti-Lux. Cars depreciate in value too fast, cheap reliable ones are readly available, Nocti-Luxes are NOT.

Get the M2 CLA'd, get a small light meter and have your parents buy you a good bike. Cars travel to fast and you don't get to see anything. You can stop a bike beside the road and smell the roses and get the picture. In a car you will not even see the roses.
