Yashica GL Rangefinder not Linked

Hello friends,

Six months ago i bought a Yashica Electro GL from an op shop for 30 bucks. I got it home to find the focus wasn't linked to the rangefinder, i neglected to check beforehand. I'm not brave enough to open up this particular camera and try and fix it (I'm not particularly patient). It has been on my desk since then and a day doesn't go by without me picking it up, admiring it, turning the advance film winder (that is a marvelous clunk). I realise i love this camera! It really is the most beautifal camera i've ever seen.

So i think, alright i'll just wait until a GL shows up on ebay and buy it. Months goes by and nothing surfaces. Then i come to this forum and find that they are going for over 200 bucks!!

I currently shoot a Minolta AL-F which i take almost everywhere. However i would like something a bit faster preferably with apeture priority.

Does anyone know of anyone in australia that can fix my camera?

Otherwise, is the gsn really that much bigger than the GL? I'm also contemplating a QL-19, its just that shutter priority ****s me.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Hmm i don't know where the other posts went, very odd. Well i found a repair guy in sydney (Camera Service Centre) who is offering to fix the problem and clean and calibrate the camera for around 200 bucks. I don't know the going rate on these kind of services so can anyone tell me if this is in line with the norm.

Cheers.

Sounds a bit high. I have a GL apart currently with bad electronics. It had the same problem you have with the rangefinder. The pivot shaft was oxidized causing it to stick. If everything else is working seems like you should be able to get that fixed for $50...

Hey thanks for the info. I've talked to another repair guy who says he should be able to fix it for 50 bucks, like you said, and he won't charge me if he can't so i'll give it a shot. These GLs seem pretty damn rare so I want to give it a second lease on life.

Good for you. I think it will be well worth it for you. Plus you get to shoot a camera that hardly anyone else has to boot!... Roger
