Another digital rangefinder

Someone over on Pentaxforums is playing with a DIY rangefinder.

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated! Looks like a Borg device to me.

The idea is priceless, to me.
A manual digital camera. The RD-1 was close, just a little too expensive for what it was. The M8 is closer, the specs make it worth real money. Surely there will be something along to fill the enormous gap...
Didn't someone make a really nice effort at putting a B+W only, full frame ccd in an M3 a couple of years ago? Anyone know what became of that project?

I like the idea, but this particular example seems strangely obscene. A film RF being humped by a digicam?
