New Rolleiflex toys (pr0n)

Just some shots of my newer Rollei toys:

Luigi strap for Rolleiflex using Rollei alligator clips. I LOVE this. The original strap for my Rollei is dried up and questionable, so this one is a welcome change.

Rolleinar I set of close-up lenses. I am looking for all three Rolleinar sets. The one I want most is the Rolleinar III (which allows the greatest magnification). Anyone got a Bay III set they'd like to sell?

One of the more fun cameras to use..and takes great pics! I have the 2.8E with all 3 Rolleinars ... These Rolleinar come up for auction quite often Melanie, just be patient. Looks like you should try to get the hood first me reckons.

You and I both, Melanie. Right now I'd settle for just the Bay III Rolleinar 1. (Anxiously awaiting a 2.8E.)

Very cool Luigi strap! I'll have to price those. I have a standard alligator clip strap but the old leather does make me nervous, for sure.

Melanie, did you have to send him the clips? I've been thinking about one of his straps as well.
Thanks,
Mike

Sort of on the topic - been trying to order a Rollei strap for a couple of weeks and Luigi's email seems to be down.

I wouldn't use the old cracked leather straps I have at gunpoint these days. I imagine if I tried to use it I would either break the Rollei or my foot or both.

Hi Wayne, I love you too!

Anhtu, I do have the hood. I should take a photo of it. It's pretty.

My Luigi strap was a gift, so I did not send my original alligator clips. His website says he can supply alligator clips but then the strap costs considerably more if I remember correctly.

I've been carrying my Rollei with the new strap in a Crown Royal bag. I used to use the original leather case and strap, but like I said the original strap is now frightening, and the leather case is clumsy to remove and put back on, not to mention I always feel like I'm going to break the winding arm off when I do it. The black strap looks pretty sweet with the Rollei.

Dear Melanie... please do not put up any more shots of shiny black German TLR's... I'm currently experiencing financial tightness and ... well I'm sure you understand. Sweet looking camera. I'd be happy just with the 75mm.

LoL... did I mention I have a Yashica 124? Not German but its a consolation prize.

HI Melanie, hi to all ! John, I am so sorry, and very concerned ! YES, my email
server, a quite costly YAHOO (I signed my contract with Simplenet, then bought
from YAHOO years ago), is badly working since MONTHS ago !

I wrote them several desperate messages, and NO ANSWERS from them !
Who may be of some help ? I phoned to Yahoo Italy, and their response
has been: "contact YAHOO USA" ! What is not so easy for me, if them does
NOT answer to my email messages, properly sent to the Customer's service...

John, you can email me also at a new emergency address: leicatime@gmail.com

Cheers, Luigi

I'll go check upstairs in a moment. I'm pretty sure my Rolleinar is a high magnification one

No disrespect to the camera pix, but the nicest image is your avatar, Melanie. IMHO, it's the most winning image on the site. Great strap, too! My old one dried up and cracked, too, dropping my baby and requiring repair. Luckily, these things are made like brick ****houses, though, and the camera shows no signs of the incident, cosmetic or otherwise.

Melanie - I've found, for Rollei accessories, that Manfred Schmidt, in Chicago - has a very good selection of original pieces, and is very conservative and honest about his rating scale. If he knows you are a shooter, and not just a collector, so much the better.

I got my rolleinar set, and hood through him. And was very happy with all aspects of the transaction.

I bought a good condition original strap on eB*y (expletives deleted - ask Richard Nixon about this) and, when it arrived all the way from Poland, I thought I'm not going to trust my precious 2.8F to that flimsy thing! So I went out and bought an OP/TECH strap for USD $ 18.00! Best value ever. If they still made these cameras I'm sure they would come standard with a similar strap!

I have all three Rolleinars for my 2.8D that is not as nice looking as your TLR, Melanie. I sold my shiny 2.8E and 2.8F and kept the users 2.8D to use. I added a Maxwell screen to give the 2.8D a face lift from inside.

The Luigi strap will have to be my next buy. Thanks for the tip here.

I got my Rollei 2.8E from a dear friend, Herbert Burrows, a former CIA agent. Apparently he bought it new in Germany when he was working there. He took exceptional care of the camera, so the original strap was in fairly good condition and I brought the leather back to life with Snowproof, which is a parrafin-base for use on boots. I lathered it on liberally, then used a hair dryer to melt it in. Looks and feels as if it were almost new. But in reality, it's not.

But I'd still like that Luigi. However, in Douglas, Arizona, there is a saddlery staffed by old men who've been working with leather since they were kids. They examined the Rollei strap and pronounced it still safe to use. They also offered to make a new strap, just like the original only a bit wider, and using my original clips, for $35. I plan to take them up on the offer.

A question: I want a lens hood for my 2.8E. Which should I look for? Bay I, II, III? I never can get this right.

Ted

Ted,

The Rolleiflex TLR's with a 2.8 taking lens need Bayonet III accessories.

I think you need a bay III Ted. I have pretty much the same camera as you. The ID of the bayonet is about 42mm - does that sound right?

Good luck Ted, the hoods are not cheap (~$50) except for the plastic ones from India? which I do not recommend (they attach to the internal bayonet so you cannot combine with filters). I think I ended up getting mine from KEH after fruitless attempts at getting one on eBay.

I HATE eBay. I just don't have to patience to hover like a vulture during the closing seconds of an auction and can't compete with auto-sniping programs anyway. I've now lost out on two Rolleinar sets and am losing patience.

My hood for my 2.8F was not expensive. I can't remember exactly but I believe it was $20-$30 at International Camera in Oakland (I think that's the name of the place). My Rolleinar I set was $40 at Keeble and Schucat in Palo Alto. I think I have better luck when I can find things in stores.
