Mass Tourism Photo Opps.

We all see the beach, the pool, and the outdoor fish restaurants in the travel brochures.

I want to photograph the real side of mass tourism: full english breakfast all day cafes, obese people with 2 litre beers at 9AM, whining kids and so on.

A friend has rented a large villa in Algarve and invited me to stay next weekend. I'll have tons of time for photography.

(Note: Algarve is one of the biggest mass tourism places in Europe.)

Any ideas from people who've been to Algarve, or similar, about photographing the nitty gritty rather than the pretty pretty?

Yes! Thank you Carzee.

That's four top ideas, and I have locations in mind already.

Here are a couple of more suggestions:
- drunks after a night of partying
- dumpsters behind the luxury hotel
- English/German/Dutch/whatever sings on Portuguese restaurants/hotels (especially those advertising English/German/Dutch/whatever specialties)

Have fun!

I'm going tomorrow.

Fresh batteries in the cameras, and a brick or three of good film.

Any other ideas to add to this great list?

This afternoon I'll reread either 'Cocaine Nights' or 'Super Cannes' both by JG Ballard to get me in the mood.

I’m planning to stalk the usual drop-off and pick-up points that the tour buses and day-cruise boats use this year, hoping to catch them on mass

foolproof: You are a mind reader.

Thank you.

I am going to my branch office later today and will have time on my hands. I was already planning to look at Martin Parr's 'The Last Resort' series of tourism in New Brighton Liverpool. How did you know that?

Also Lise Sarfati's 'Vivenda' series of Russian restaurant kitchens.
