Canonet GIII QL 17 in the mail

I have a Canonet GIII QL 17 coming in the mail, it should arrive anyday. I was wondering about your experiences with what type of batteries to use. I know that the orginal recommened battery is no long made and it was 1.3v and ones that fit are 1.5v. I have read that these are usable but I have read that the ASA needs to be adjusted, but others have said this is only a legend.

What do the users of this camera recommend for a Battery replacement?

Thanks

Leo

Congratulations for your new Canonet! Leo,

Personally I use 1.4v hearing aid battery w/. the following adapter (no electronic circuit as the MR9 from www.criscam.com). Of course you may think about the MR9 or just use some metal foil to make the battery fit the compartment.
There has been other threads talking about these issues, such as this,

For print film, you should be Okay with 1.5v Alkaline batteries. Hearing aid batteries give the correct voltage, and are cheap. They have a short life once used; they produce electricity after being exposed to air.

If you go the Alkaline route, or find a Mercury Cell, you can extend its life by turning the Canonet to manual mode when not in use. That turns the meter off; zero drain on the battery. It will not extend the zinc-air battery, its clock starts ticking when you break the airtight seals.
