Buying from UK

Ok, I have a serious case of GAS and am considering buying CDL's M6 in the classifieds here. I can't seem to find any definitave information on how much this is going to cost me to get through US customs.

Has anyone in the US had recent experience purchasing cameras from private parties overseas?

I have sent numerous parcels to the US from the UK and as far as I am aware, there hasn't been a charge on any of them. I think there is only a problem the other way round because of the VAT rules in Europe.
