New pix using Arista EDU 100 Ultra...

The other day I received an Industar 26m. I took the Bessa R and "new" lens for a short jaunt around the property. First up, full daylight , then one on the porch with light from a large window, then one with flash in the basement.

I also recently read a post regarding the need for gentle agitation when using HC110 with this film. So......I souped it for 7 minutes at 68 degrees, agitating gently (no inversion) every 2 minutes.

Yeah, I do...I intend to try it with Rodinal, too.

As you know, I didn't like this film, but here is some information that an email friend has produced on Arista Edu Ultra 100 (I don't think he will mind my using it.):

Today I tried a different developer, and the tests
looked a lot more encouraging. I developed the film in
my Phototherm at 75 F for 4:40 min. Phototherm is a
continuous agitation rotary processor. I used T-Max
developer at a dilution of 1+5.

Results:

Gbar (i.e. contrast) = 0.535
film speed = 100 iso (actually, just a hair more)
Dynamic range = 10 stops (more or less, depending on
what part of the shoulder you want to choose).

Dmax was about 1.9 density units above base plus fog.

This is a dramatic improvement over my testing with
other developers. It looks like I will be using this
T-Max developer with this film.

The only problem is Tmax developer is very expensive, which shoots down the reason for using Atista Edu Ultra 100.

Hi!

Yeah, I know you're not in love with this stuff. Neither am I...I'm just learning about it's capabilities. After I run out of HC110, I'm going to try Rodinal, with several permutations, just as I'm doing with HC110. So far, I've tried 3 different mixes, 2 different temperature gradations, and 3 varieties of agitation.

As the "perfect" result is highly subjective, I don't much expect that any of my stuff will get rave reviews, but then, again, I'm no Ansel Adams (or plug in your own Photo-Hero).

Thanks for the information, though! Sounds like your friend has way more technical expertise and equipment to deal with the analysis than I do. Good for him. I've got a looong way to go before I consider myself even consistently competent!

Regards!
Don
