Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

Just got my M8, and 1st shot

1st impressions - Much lighter than my MP, or at least it feels like it. My MP feels much better built. Like the bottom plate and keeps with the M tradition, like the clean design and lines but wish they had an external ISO dial. Shutter release not as smooth as my MP and shutter sound is not bad at all. Below is a link to a pbase page where I will put all of my M8 test shots and 1st shots, so keep an eye out. The very 1st shot out of the cam is there as well w/ a 100% crop. Detail is there, gobs of it over my film scans at 100%. Color is so so, but I have not even read the manual yet so no settings were changed.

Steve,
It's an electron microscope where fine detail is concerned- nice capture.

"So in summation we will finally have the camera everyone has been secretly longing for. Now if the camera takes a truly great shot there will be no debate- it was the iEye that gets all the credit and of course when an image is not to our liking it’s the iEye’s fault. Yes with the iEye only you can determine it’s creative genius."

Looks like you live in Northern California from the pics, say, Silicon Valley?

Steve,
Did you keep the C-Sonnar 50mm f1.5? If so, how about trying a couple shots with it on the M8? Maybe not just at f1.5, but f2.8 or f4. I haven't seen any shots from that combination, yet.
