Bessa R2 Meter going mental

Hi guys, my Bessa R2's meter started playing up the other day. I cocked the shutter and then semi-depressed the release button to take a reading, and the light instead of being bright and bed and staying on, was flickering like a bad bulb and very very faint. It also didn't stay on when I stopped depressing the release. I gave it a bit of a shake purely because I was out of ideas as to what to do about it and bingo it's all ok again!? Loose battery contact? Buggered meter? I don't know how long until it goes weird again so any suggestions would be great!

btw I live in the UK, if I do need to get it fixed, where should I send it to??

My R starts doing that when the battery is almost empty. Try a fresh set of batteries.

Same thing with my R, old batteries.

It does recover somewhat once you're out of the cold, or the batteries have had a chance to build up a charge again.

On my R2, the meter sometimes won't react to changing of aperture once the initial reading has been made. It's like the first reading has been locked in. Once the meter times out, it's receptive again to the new settings. It's a bit of a pain but the camera part works fine.

FrankS, that's exactly what's happening to my R2 now! I might try the new batteries idea but I have just come back from a trip to the Lake District and it was really quite annoying having the '-' light on all the time! grrr

Update: just found this link and it seems that the problem is due to the meter's weird hardwired EV system. try the test and see if this is the case for yours as well!

Similar thing happened to me a few hours ago. Meter lights either flickered, did not stay on, did not come on, or did not change when changing the aperture. I put in fresh batteries and all has been fine since.
