Talking the logic of what's coming in the mail...

so... I needed(wanted) a good digital camera, I lamented the cost or the rd-1 and the m8. I bought a "like new" Pentax *istD from keh, with a 50/1.4 smc-a lens, I picked up a vivitar 24/2.8(also automatic, it plays nice with the camera) and a helios-40 monster lens, which got examined in the bozeman montana airport cause it's made of metal and looks like a bomb!

as nice as the camera is, i started coveting the pentax limited lenses, so much so that I made a wishlist at B&H. basically, i discovered that to get the glass I wanted, it would cost me at least 2200, I tried out the 77mm pentax limited, fantastic optics and build quality. the auto--focus was a little slow but a great lens. not as good as my ZM lenses but damn good.

after careful consideration... I bought an RD-1 refurb from epson. I looked at a ton of images and it's certainly as good as the 6MP *istD and dammit, I already own the glass!! I'm very excited to give it a go. I'm sure it will make a nice companion to my ZI body and the new top secret ZI digital that exists in my mind.

WooooHoooooo!

i'll prob keep the pentax, for now anyway...

I'm a long-time Pentax user with a bunch of SMC (screw thread mount) lenses that have given gorgeous slides for many years. I went in a different direction with my first dslr, which is a refurbed Canon 20D. I can use all my Pentax lenses on it (with very little inconvenience thanks to the stopdown lever on each lens) plus Nikon lenses (less convenient) and of course Canon's Image Stabilizer lenses which for me are a huge reason in favor of Canon.

I too got a refurb RD-1 and am very happy with it, at least as a short-term interim stopgap while I wait to see if Leica makes the M8 right with a better IR sensor filter or not. If so, it'll be a backup, if not I'll sell all my Leica stuff and go to a full-frame Canon body. There are so many great choices out there, there's no reason to ever settle for something unsatisfying.
