Anyone been to Costa Rica?

Planning a trip to Costa Rica in late March. I've never been there before and would like to know if anyone can recommend some nice spots. I heard they had a major airport that I will fly into, from there I have no clue where to go or stay. I've been to Cuba and loved the city, old cars, and sunsets....But Costa Rica will be new to me. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions. I'm just taking my Leica Digilux and tons of SD cards.

I was there briefly in 1965. All I remember is that the bars give you free tapas with your drinks. Very nice custom.

I haven't been there, Bill, but am also interested. Check out some of the travel sites like Expedia, Travelocity, and Fodors for info and further links. Oddly enough, there's a special Costa Rica forum at Photo.net!

I gather that there's a large climatic change in Costa Rica between the uplands and the lowlands along the coast. In order to enjoy the beaches, you suffer the heat.

Where you go will depend on what you'd like to do. I believe there are mountain-jungle eco-tours, which sounds good to me.

Thanks..I'll let you know what I find. Apparently, it's 4 dollars to every $1 usd down there..so I can live like a King.

Costa Rica has some of the best nature spots in the world, with a huge variety of birds and plant life, not the easiest subjects for RF's. Plan to bring an SLR w/ macro & long telephoto's.

My youngest kid spent 9 weeks there last summer as a writer/researcher for the 2005-2006 Lets Go book on Costa Rica. I highly recommend the book as a resource because it is updated every year or two (and not just because my kid is one of the authors). The Lets Go books are crammed with practical advice - check out the book in your local bookstore!
