Goodie. I should be getting one(the glass) in a couple of weeks here, and wanted to be sure that a 50freakin dollar hood was worth it.

I bought this hood:

after I bought my CV 40/1.4 a few weeks ago, it's also metal. I haven't seen the CV hood, so I don't know how it compares, but I'm happy with mine.

Metal bayonet hood, clicks into place very securely and you can replace the lens cap with it in place. Classic looks as well, I love vented hoods

It's a very pretty hood, if such things matter to you.

I hardly ever use it because it makes the camera look larger.

It's aluminium . . . I think.

It's aluminium . . . I think.

It's light, and feels cold in my hands.
The metal feels like aluminium,
and it most likely will be, as aluminium is easy to shape.
Anyhow I didn't buy it. Played with it when I was buying the Nokton 1.4/40.

But it certainly looks nice on the lens and camera,
makes it more serious looking.

Best regards,
Manfred

My hood has loosened up a little in its secured position, there's some play in it now. But it's still fine - probably due to many knocks and me fiddling it with all the time.

I didn't buy it for flare as much as for protection, having the camera swinging about on your shoulder gets it knocking against all sorts of stuff.

I agree with Jon about making the camera larger - I tend to leave it (and the trigger winder) off if I want something small. Otherwise it begins entering small SLR territory.

It's metal, and very nice quality.

The Nokton 40 has better build quality than the early generation VC lenses like the 28 Ultron I used to own. The finish appears to be black adonizing rather than whatever flaky junk they used on the Ultron.

Much closer to Leica and Hexanon build quality now.
