How old is your vintage Leica?

I was just looking at them today after I took out the elmar-c that i sold earlier, and checked out serial #'s:

M3 and collapsible 50 summicron - both 1955
M2 - 1958
Rigid Summicron - 1957
90/2.8 Chrome elmarit - 1960

Amazing how they keep working, most of them working like new. And all older than I am.

Well, I had to look at the screwmount kit:

IIIf - 1951 (I thought it would have been older)
35/3.5 Summaron - 1950
90/4 elmar - 1960
50/2 Summar - 1937
50/3.5 Elmar - no serial number, pre-1933

And the IIIf's got an almost-finished roll in it.

My M2 is from 1965.

I used Stephen Gandy's site http://www.cameraquest.com/mtype.htm for those that don't know off the top of their heads or don't want to Google it.

M3, 1960

29 years older than me.
It works, but the 1 second setting isn't accurate - I'll get it fixed eventually.

Ash: How can you tell that the Standard is one out of 225 made?

There used to be a serial number checker at leica-camera.com but it seems to have vanished with the redesign. Shame, it was handy for checking ebay items and the like.

Thanks, Ash. I will do so. My Standard is also black and I wonder if the black models are rarer or the chrome ones. One person told me that the black is rare but I read somewhere that many more were made in black than in chrome.

My two M3s are Feb. 1957 and June 1959, if the dates at Stephen's site from Leica are accurate. One older than me, one younger. I forget the serial numbers of my SL and SL2.
