Heading to Manhattan Tomorrow

Just me and my M6 going to the Photo Plus Expo. I plan on catching the earliest train I can get to out of New Haven into Grand Central Station. I want to hang out and shoot at GCS for a little while and then head down 5th Avenue to 34th Street for the walk up to the Jacob Javits Center. That will take me past Macy's, the Empire State Building, and B&H Photo. I will head back towards GCS down 42nd Street, and if time permits I will make a trip up to Rockefeller Center. The unfortunate thing is that I have to be back home before 6pm so I won't get to spend a lot of time anywhere other than at the expo.

The bag is already packed, M6, 28 Ultron, 35 Summicron and 50 Summicron. 5 rolls of film, all my miscellaneous stuff, Delta 3200, Neopan 1600 and my last roll of APX 400. I keep putting more stuff in the Domke, but lift up the bag, declare it too heavy and get back down to this kit. Comfortable shoes and a light jacket will top me off, our weather will cool off tomorrow after a few days of unusual warm temps.

Ok, I am ready for a fun day of shooting and "window shopping". If you don’t see me signed in at my normal 5am time, you know where I am, or at least where I am headed. Wish me luck.

Good luck, Rover. Remember to dress all in black and jump around the crowds like a ninja to remain invisible while doing your street shooting!

I did think of that Frank.

No, ninja is too athletic for me. I am going for happy Italian guy hoping a smile will let me get away without getting assaulted.

Hey Rover, remember that B&H is closed on Saturdays. There's an outdoor flea market on 39th st (btwn 9th and 10th ave) that sometimes has old cameras for cheap, maybe not worth the detour, but if your nearby...

Enjoy.

Sounds like a great day trip. If you can, bring a mini-tripod or a small bag of rice and shot some long exposure shots of GCS. I miss being in NYC just for the ability to attend some shows like that. But then again, I can drive from northern burbs to SW burbs for a job every day in about 45mins. Only the F train could do that for me in NYC.

Couple places to make a pilgrimage to. Photovillage is always included if you can stand the heavy sighs of GAS.

Great idea, but it depends upon time and all. Not sure when Rich opens up and when the train arrives. Cross town bus might help to make up some time. Photovillage is wouth on Broadway from the ESB. A cab on off hours might be better than a bus. It's a lot to put into a day. GAS pains might make him miss his train back.

I think that, subconsciously, you are leaving space for something to buy! Have a great time.

Photo Village is more a museum than a shop, I will have to pass on that tomorrow. No, I am not going to buy anything, just looking forward to walking around and seeing the expo.

Mark,

The flea market is open on Saturday (and Sunday). You'll find more info at this link - http://www.hellskitchenfleamarket.com/ - there's a free shuttle that operates between 39th st & 9th ave and the garage flea market at 25th st & 6th ave.

Enjoy.
