Lens hoods for Sonnar 50 and Biogen 28, 25 and 21

The Biogen 21, 25 and 28 and the Sonnar 50 all have 46mm filter sizes.

Would it be possible to use the lens shade made for the Biogen 28 on the Sonnar 50? It may not provide as much flare protection as the shade made for the Sonnar 50, but it would provide physical protection for the lens front.

Would it be possible to use the lens shade made for the Biogen 28 on the Biogen 21 or 25 when these lenses are used on a Leica M8? Based on the cropping factor of the M8, it seems like these lens shades shouldn't cause vignetting.

Is there a generic snap-in lens cap that has the correct diameter to fit the inside diameter of the lens shade at its front edge? Or, is there a generic push-on lens cap that has the correct diameter to fit the outside of the Zeiss lens shade (like the push-on Voigtlander caps)?

Thanks,

Rog

I can only answer the first one, yes, it is possible to use the biogon shade on the sonnar.

Thanks Jano,

Do you know if the Biogen shade is significantly shorter than the Sonnar shade?

There are two shades made for the Contax G lens (in 46mm screw on) the CC-1 and CC-2 (from memory), a push on cap like the cv scheme was available for these, but a generic 55mm plastic clip on/snap in will work as well or better.

The CC-1 is ok on the 28mm Contac G Biogon (with a filter) suggest you need a mate with a G to try out his hoods on your camera, or a photo shop with 2nd hand stock.

The CC-1 I have is real pretty, I use it on my Contax II/Kiev, with a step ring, a step ring is your other option.

Sure, it'll fit but I doubt it will work well. Just a guess, though.

Get the Zeiss 25/28 lens hood and yes, you can use the 28 hood on the 25 as well. Might not work on the 21, though.

Click on the next sentence. The C Sonnar 50mm/1.5 Lens shades are now available from Popflash Photo.

And, yes, the 21mm and 25/28mm hoods all fit. The external bayonet on these 46mm filter Zeiss ZM lenses are all the same, but it's best to use the proper hood for each lens.

the shade for the 28 is made to suit both the 25 and 28. In effect you will be using a 25 shade on a 50 lens which would give only very limited benefit at best. If the ZI hood is out the price range, you should be able to pick up a 46mm std hood for a couple of $.

I've been using a CC-1 hood from a Contax G lens on my ZI 28.
It does block the corner of finder since its solid, however I haven't had the spare change to buy the $85. hood. It works..
