Angry a dry Jupiter 9

Hi all! I'm back after an intense working time.

I received a MINT black Jupiter 9 f/2 for my Kiev 4 (in the meanwhile the kiev turned BLUE: it's very cool, soon you'll see pics here).

The problem (as often occurs with russian lenses) is that the focusing movement is hard and absolutely not smooth. It needs some lube, and I have all I need to do it.

... But I cannot reach the helicoid! It seems to be impossible to dismantle.
I've lubed some Industars, but never Jupiter: can you help me?

Thanks

Has all the info you need. It's an interesting lens to work on; I had to fix the mount on mine but now its a seriously sweet lens.

Good luck!

The Contax/Kiev mount version can be lubed as DIY project, but it takes a little patience and care. The biggest single problem for me was the big coil spring that wraps around the inside of the lens barrel. I didn't know it was there until it shot off across the room.

There are at least three ways to re-assemble the spring into the lens. I know for sure that two of them are wrong.

One tip: The coil spring will likely have one end more open than the other. The smaller end goes around the tube with the more open end going against the coupling that mounts to the camera helical.

It's really a fairly easy job to lube one but care and patience are necessary. I have one apart now that may be more difficult to reassemble than usual because the lower collar (held in place by six small grub screws) that should come off is frozen in place. Hopefully it won't be TOO difficult.
