How to get the purple out?

I've been scanning some archival color negs from the 70's and 80's. Some of them have gone purple on me, that is, the shadows have darkened to a purple hue, which so far, using the GIMP, I have not been able to get out.

Any solution to this? Here's a detail with the problem.

I've had the same problem. If you have Photoshop, use the image adjustment for color balance and decrease the amount of blue. If you don't have Photoshop, look for a software program that lets you adjust color balance or levels.
