Yashica Lynx-1000

Any comments good or bad on this camera?
I picked one up today at the flea market for $4. It needs door seals but everything seems to work good.

A Lynx 1000 was the first "real" camera I ever owned, bought new in 1960. The Kodachromes it produces amaze me to this day. I've had several more over the years and each was blessed with an excellent lens, a good RF/VF and solid build. I wish I still had one so just enjoy and use your new treasure.

I wonder why other leaf shutter makers never tried to use 1000th??
This is the only leaf shutter camera I've seen with this top speed.

The fujica 35-EE (Fuji Synchro MXL) and 35-SE (Citizen MLT)also have shutters to 1/1000. Not common cameras but well built with good lens and some interesting features.

The seals are a relatively easy job but the lens is a bit more difficult to get at and back together if you need to claean the shutter/diapraghm.

You would think a high end camera maker such as Rolleiflex would offer a model with 1000th top shutter speed since it can be done.

The Lynx 1000 is a great camera. Well built, totally manual, and, as mentioned earlier, a top speed of 1000. The lens is supurb, just as sharp as an Electo, and just about as fast. The only weak point is the meter, it wears down over time, but you really can use a hand held. I'd say that this, or the Lynx 14, are Yashicas best fixed lens rangefinders.

I seldom rely on these old meters anyway. I have a Ranger 9 as my carry along meter.
