Anyone using the R-D1 with a Canon 28/3.5?

Anyone using the R-D1 with a Canon 28/3.5?

I found a Canon 28/2.8 in mint condition but its very soft at the corners and will be sent back. I'm going to try another example when I find one but I've also heard very good things about the Canon 28/3.5. Has anyone used this lens on the R-D1? I'm hoping to look at some full size samples made at or near F/3.5

My main 28mm is now the VC Ultron but I'd also like a more compact lens at that focal length. The VC 28/3.5 isn't a lens that I like much on the R-D1. Thanks.

Sean

They're talking about the later black version, right? I don't have either that or an R-D1, just clarifying.

Hi Aizan,

Actually the 28/3.5 models I've heard good things about are chrome.

Cheers,

Sean

Oh, that's unusual. I've only ever heard so-so to bad things about them.

What I find is that for many lenses (including the Canon 28/2.8) reputations can be all over the map. The 28/2.8 that I bought recently is an early version and it's very soft in the corners wide open. I borrowed a different 28/2.8 when I tested the R-D1 and it was much better. So, I imagine the best thing to do is to keep trying different examples and see (firsthand) how they do.

Cheers,

Sean

Keep in mind that in the Olde Days, there was a lot more sample-to-sample variation in lenses than we're accustomed to now. (And there's still a lot more than most people realize!)

Indeed. In fact even with modern lenses, I've still sometimes had to go through three examples of a given lens before I found a good one.

Cheers,

Sean
