Zeiss Contax Forum for the classic Zeiss Contax I, II, III, IIa, IIIa , G series, and if you want to push it, the nice Contax point and shoots. Some spill over from the Kievs, the Soviet copy of the Contax II/III can also be expected. Plus the ONLY production camera ever made in classic Zeiss Contax Rangefinder mount WITH TTL metering ... the Voigtlander Bessa R2C.

focus difference between G2 bodies

hi all , bought another G2 the other day , scuffed but seems sweet , has a 35mm lens which i did not have and it was only $200.00 New Zealand dollars all up so I had to get it......anyhow , there is a difference (slight ) between the focus distance the bodies give me , one body might say its 1.98 m , the other might say 1.94 m , have not finished roll in new body yet but wondering if any other owner of 2 G2 bodies has the same thing happening ?

Same here... I have one that gives 1.47m and another showing 1.54m for the same object distance. Pretty minor difference, and yours is even less. I have not seen any focus problems in the film, and if you don't either, I'd consider it irrelevant. Enjoy your "new" G2!

I think the AF in the Contax G is not totaly steppless. It may well be that it measures 1.96m and sets the first to 1.98 and the other measures 1.95m sets 1.94 as the distance.

IMHO short of a viewcamera and a 10x loupe nothing focuses more exact than 1% of the distance.

thanks guys for getting back to me on that , glad it is not just my 2 bodies .
And yes , View Cams are proper...havn't used one since i stopped assisting...I need better clients who like my work and have bigger budgets for me.....
Then I will buy one. Very little ad work gets shot on View Cams in N.Z now , most high end work is being shot digital which I think is a great shame , though I do like charging for digital processing...
