This is just silly - David Douglas Duncan, who is one of the few photographers that Leitz ever gave a custom serial number to (serial number M3D), was famous for using non-Leitz glass. From his book <i>Great Treasures of the Kremlin</i> "All of the photographs were taken on Kodachrome with two Leica M3D cameras fitted with Canon, Nikkor and Zeiss-Biogon lenses."

Enjoy your Canon lense. The link to history is one of the enjoyable things about using mechanical cameras like the M4-2.

Likewise, Winogrand used the Canon 28s ...

plenty of great lenses out there, many of them bear the Leica name, and many of them do not ;-)

Thanks Guys,
I have already started using my "dream" lens, the Canon 50mm F1.2 which arrived early last Saturday. I have psoted some photos in the gallery already. I am very happy with the quality and balance of this lens. I have not had time to thoroughly test it yet ie: try it wide open at F1.2 but by early results, it looks very sharp. Perhaps I've been a bit lucky with this example.

Fluff,

If you search the gallery, you will find that fellow member Mackinaw has some shots made with his 50/1.2.

From what I've seen, the OOF look at wide open is quite unique (I like it). Another Canon lens to try, when you get around to it, is the Canon 50/1.5 (sonnar design) LTM.

Canon made some wonderful lenses in LTM.

Nice blog Fluffthecat,

Don't get the lens purists under your skin. I own a Leica M3 and most of the time I am using the Canon 50 f1.4 on an adapter and a 35 f2.5 Skoper from Voightlander. Cool photos.

niiiice. the canon 25mm is what koudelka used for 'gypsies' and lots of other stuff.
